Sartori & Partners has published its Seattle in-house counsel salary page, and the numbers are healthy: total cash runs about $165,000 to $430,000 by seniority. General counsel and chief legal officer seats at mid-market to large tech and retail companies show $330,000 to $450,000 base with a 30% to 40% bonus target, and associate GCs $250,000 to $320,000 base, before equity. These are salary ranges (some figures are base salary only).
The useful part is the negotiating advice. Once your base hits the band midpoint, Sartori says, more base is not coming; the next dollars come from RSU refreshes, signing equity and a written bonus target. So ask about refresh grants before you haggle over $10,000. We ran the same numbers for Houston this week, and our in-house counsel salaries guide has the national surveys. Thinking Seattle? See who’s hiring on our Seattle legal jobs page.
As Sartori puts it: “When a Seattle authorised base sits at the midpoint, the next dollars almost never come from another base rung—they come from RSU refresh size, written STI targets, and leveling.”
