  • GCs say legal drives the business; only 17% of the C-suite agrees. At an Association of Corporate Counsel roundtable, 15 chief legal officers talked through AI and the law department of 2030: 86% of GCs say their department significantly contributes to business objectives, but only 17% of the C-suite agrees. (The Law Department of 2030, Corporate Counsel Now (ACC))
  • Your AI use goes in the RFP. Kathryn Rattigan of Robinson+Cole writes up a DRI panel where legal leaders from Bayer, Fifth Third Bank and Progressive said AI now shows up in their outside counsel guidelines and RFPs. Three questions for yours: which tools touch your data, who checks the output, and does the bill go down? Is your own department hiring AI counsel yet? (The New Client Expectation: Lawyers Who Know How to Use AI, Data Privacy + Cybersecurity Insider)
  • Lexis quietly stamps your downloads ‘AI-Generated’. Greg Lambert at 3 Geeks and a Law Blog found LexisNexis Protégé writes hidden “AI-Generated” properties into downloaded files, including a memo he typed himself. If your legal operations team sets AI disclosure rules, check your own metadata. (Lexis Protégé Is Labeling Your Downloads “AI-Generated”, 3 Geeks and a Law Blog)
  • AI was supposed to cut legal bills. Billable time just hit a record. Clio’s 2026 Legal Trends Report says lawyers now log 3.4 billable hours a day, 53% more than in 2016. If AI makes outside counsel faster, ask why the hours keep climbing; our guide to managing outside counsel can help frame it. (Clio’s 2026 Legal Trends Report, Clio (PR Newswire))
  • The partner pay gap is 41%. Major, Lindsey & Africa’s new partner survey finds men averaging $1.68 million and women $1.11 million, with much of the gap tied to origination credit. Non-equity partners now bill over $1,000 an hour. (Law Firm Partners Bill Fewer Hours, Earn More, Major, Lindsey & Africa)
