AI Was Meant To Take The Grunt Work. It’s Taking The Fun Stuff

Conor Donegan, writing on Atlassian’s blog, shares new research from its Teamwork Lab on AI at work. In a survey of 1,013 U.S. knowledge workers, AI users said it takes on the work they enjoy about as often as the work they dislike, and 10% said it has taken all of the work they enjoy. The more deeply a team builds AI into its workflow, the more of the good stuff goes.

Lawyers should read that twice. The best part of in-house work is judgment: spotting the issue, making the call, advising the business. There is good news, since 54% of AI users expect more specialists, not fewer, and 78% want humans leading high-risk decisions. The risk sits with junior lawyers, whose learning work is first in line. If you run a team, decide what to protect before the tool decides for you. Our guide to managing your in-house career has more, and AI counsel jobs keep coming.

“Leaders are also far more likely to say AI has taken on all of their most enjoyable work.”
