WIPO Warns Trademark Owners Of Increased Risk From Cybersquatters

A recent World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) report points out what many already know too well – domain name cybersquatting is still a significant risk to companies and the pernicious cybersquatters are only getting more savvy. Marc Trachtenberg of Ladas & Parry LLP provides a review of recent developments and also gives useful suggestions for reducing the risks – some of the suggestions include the following (Marc provides full details in the article):

  • Perform a domain audit
  • Register Available Domains
  • Subscribe to a Domain Watch Service
  • Create an Enforcement Strategy
  • Have your trademarks removed from use as keywords by the major online advertising providers
