Notification Requirements for Data Security Breaches

Proskauer Rose LLP is reporting on new state laws that require businesses to report data security breaches involving personally identifiable information.  Following California’s lead, eight states and New York City have enacted notification requirements that may be relevant to your company’s operations.  Notably, the State of Washington has imposed a private right of action for individuals to file suit if a business has violated the state’s notification requirements.  Link.
