Buying an .EU Domain Name

The Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has approved a new Top Level Domain (TLD).  Your company may soon be able to register domain names under the ".EU" TLD, which means you can have web and email addresses such as "APPLE.EU" or "BL.EU".  ICANN selected EURid, a non-profit group, to manage the domain.  According to the Associated Press, EURid is currently developing a procedure to handle early registrations for trademark holders and has hired PricewaterhouseCoopers to help validate claims.  While it is not possible to pre-register .EU domain names at this time - it would be a good idea to alert your IT and IP departments to get their lists together.
