In-house lawyers are thriving in tough economic times

In-house lawyers are thriving – or at least that is the view from Australia:

“In-house lawyers may be seen as the “poor cousins” of the legal community compared to commercial lawyers, but they are being increasingly used by businesses in the tight fiscal environment, according to Brisbane Airport Corporation general counsel and company secretary Sarah Thornton.Ms Thornton, who has been nominated for corporate lawyer of the year at the Australian In-House Lawyers Awards in Canberra in November, said Brisbane Airport Corporation did almost three-quarters of its legal work itself, briefing a minority of work to external firms.”
