California’s New Anti-Spam Statute (Happy New Year)

by Editors on January 10, 2005

With the New Year, California’s new anti-spam statute comes into effect.  Unlike the federal CAN-SPAM Act (known by some as the  "CAN’T-STOP-SPAM" act),  the California statute gives individuals the right to sue spammers for liquidated damages "of $1,000 per unsolicited commercial e-mail advertisement transmitted in violation of the provisions, up to $1,000,000 per incident".  Any readers in California interested in some pro bono work shutting down spammers?
