Sun’s General Counsel Becomes First Fortune 500 GC To Start a Blog

by Editors on August 15, 2006

Matt Dillon, Sun’s GC, has trailblazed into the blawgosphere with his new blog which, according to press reports, is the first Fortune 500 GC Blog:

"Sun’s General Counsel, Matt Dillon (pictured), this week started a blog. He was evidently spurred on by the example of over 3,000 Sun employees – most notably, CEO Jonathan Schwartz but let’s not forget either Tim Bray (whose initiative it originally was, to bring Sun into the Blogging Age, and who as a result was specifically tasked with so ‘making it happen’ by Schwartz).

Why did he do it? In his very first posting, he tried to explain just that:

"My primary motivation is a question that I am frequently asked. It comes in two forms. From others in my profession, it is articulated as: ‘What is it like being the General Counsel of a Fortune 500 company like Sun Microsystems’" From my children it is posed as: ‘Daddy, what do you DO at work all day?’"
