When You Need Help

When lawyers need help, they should know that there are places they can go to get the assistance they need. Lawyers have approximately twice the rate of addiction as the general public and three times the rate of depression. A great place to get helpful information is LawyersAssistance.Org, a blog published by a wonderful team at the New Jersey Lawyers Assistance Program. The blog is filled with articles and information specifically for lawyers, judges and law students about stress, depression, addiction and related issues. The blog also has a page of links to similar programs throughout the US, UK & Canada, which can also be accessed directly at www.ConfidentialHelp.com. Many of the listed programs have attorneys who are also counselors on staff (New Jersey has two). For the many in the profession who just don’t believe that a non-lawyer could begin to understand what they are going through, the fact that this is confidential help by lawyers, for lawyers makes all the difference.
Please spread the word about the blog. The more people who are aware of it, the better it is for the legal community. People often think they are the only lawyers with these problems and they need to know they’re not alone, and that there is help available.

Geoff Gussis reports that lawyers have approximately twice the rate of addiction as the general public and three times the rate of depression. Now, he says, lawyers also have a blog to help: Lawyersassistance.org.
